The girls all got their annual flu shot Saturday morning. Two of the three did excellent. Ryan volunteered to go first and did not complain or cry at all. Baby Polly went second and she also did not cry at all, she just said "owie" when it was done. Then, it was Emma's turn. SHE FREAKED! Both Chris and I had to hold her down, and she is strong. She was fighting for her life and begging the nurse not to do it. Ryan ran to the waiting room because she didn't want to witness the hold down. She told us later that the whole waiting room could hear Emma. It was something else! Thankfully, Emma only requires one shot a year. We went to Shipleys for donuts after. All three girls got rewarded, even though only two were brave! Chris and I split an apple fritter for our reward!

Sweetest Heart
Our neighbor across the canal, Kathryn, is about to lose her mother. Emma has been asking a lot of questions about her and made her this card at school . We hand delivered it and it made her smile. Emma has such a kind and tender heart and she makes me so proud.
***I wrote this blog prior to Bonnie passing away. She died a few days after this. Emma hand delivered home-made cookies, as promised.

Excellent First 6 Weeks
Both girls are doing great at school this year. Third grade is the first year for number grades and so far Ryan has been doing well in the high level reading and math classes she is in. She has a lot more homework (especially since she had none in second grade), so we are getting used to that. I am excited to see her first real report card! And, Emma is killing it at first grade. Her competitive self pushes her in everything.

Soccer Practice
We spend a LOT of time at soccer practice. Emma practices 3 hours a week. We are enjoying the cooler temps (and thankful for IPads!).
Hill Running Club
Ryan asked yo join the Hill Running Club this year! It is a running club for 3rd-6th graders who meet before school at 7 a.m.every Wednesday. They stretch for 10 minutes and then run for 45 minutes outside around the track. Chris and I both were excited to see her get excited about this activity, so of course we said yes! Grandpa offered to drop her off the first week since it was a B shift. Ryan got right up at 6:40 and got dressed and ate a quick breakfast before heading out the door at 6:55. She loved it and said she can't wait to do it again next week!
Ready to go! |
I spied on her on my way to work at 7:45 and she was running hard! I totally embarrassed her, by the way! |

Lunch at Hill
Chris and I had lunch with the girls for the first time this year. Ryan let us eat with her too! I failed to get a picture with Ryan, but we had a great time with both of them. And, since Polly was at school Chris and I went out for a lunch date after visiting the girls!

Chris is home!
It was a long 2 weeks without Chris. He left 3 days after school started and was gone for 15 bedtimes. Hurricane Harvey was so much worse than what we originally thought so the girls and I didn't know how long his deployment was going to be so that was the hardest part. We are so glad he made it home safe and so glad he was able to help those in need. Emma took it the hardest and worried about him a lot. When she walked out of school and saw him she ran and jumped on him. There were lots of tears from onlookers!

DTS 7v7 Labor Day tournament
Emma played in her first 7v7 tournament with the Texans. She is playing up a year AND this team played up a year! So, 6 year old Emma, played against teams 2+ years older than her. The team did great and won 2 games on Saturday and then lost in the quarterfinals Sunday. I loved watching them play but the logistics of getting to Plano for the 8:00 a.m. games and then back again for 3:30 p.m. games was rough since Chris is out of town (and Mamaw and Pa are also gone). Thankfully, my awesome tribe of friends offered to help with Ryan and Polly and I was able to get Emma back and forth. Proud of this team!
Dawn took some great action photos of Emma. Love how hard she hustles!
