Turning 38 in Guatemala!

I chose to go another medical mission to Guatemala with Faith in Practice, and my birthday happened to fall during my 8 days away.  I honestly forgot about it, but my awesome roommate, Suz, and my team did not.  I woke up to balloons and a card, I was serenaded in the women's ward and the male ward at the hospital, I was treated to lunch and a massage, and sang to again at dinner amidst decorations and cake!  I am so fortunate in so many ways.  38 started off great!
Opened my bedroom door to find this!

Suz is the best!

Love her!

Being sang to for the third time!
AND with margaritas and cake!
I am greasy looking because I just had the best massage of my life!

Cheers to 38!

VD2018

Valentine's CG workout
My team "The Black Hearts" won!

Emma made this for Owen.

Emma got a Val-o-gram from Owen.
Ryan got a special Valentine from Gunnar (4th year in a row).

Chris made the girls hilarious home made Valentine's cards.
He also gave Emma a "chocolate Owen"!
The funny part of this Valentines Day was Chris and I got a call from the Hill nurse around mid morning  telling us that Emma was not feeling well.  She never goes to the nurse, so even though she had no fever and had not thrown up, Ms. Nelson wanted to let us know in case we wanted to come get her. I asked to talk to Emma and she sounded okay but said she wanted to come home. I reminded her that she would miss her Valentine's party (Emma never likes to miss a party) and she still insisted on coming home. So, Chris went to pick her up. He and I had plans to have lunch together so we decided to play it by ear and see how she was feeling. Chris called me at noon and said Emma was acting totally normal and he regretted picking her up from school.  We decided to have lunch and let her tag along. When they picked me up from work I told Emma I was glad she was feeling better and that she really should be at school.  She seemed pleased to be spending the day with us......then I mentioned how unfortunate it was that she wouldn't be at school when they passed out the Val-o-grams.  I had been told by Owen's mom that he had ordered one for Emma.  Her mouth dropped open and she said "take me back to school!".  She was obviously fine and the nurse had said she was welcome back at school since she did not have a fever or puke, so we ate a quick lunch and took her little butt back to school! She missed a couple hours of school, but made it back in time for the party and the delivery of the special Val-o-gram. Stinker.

Best Crafty Dad

We got back from our ski trip and Emma announced Thursday evening (on way to soccer practice) that she needed a Valentine's box Friday, even though her party is the following week.  I tried to tell her we would make one over the weekend and that it would not be a big deal to bring the box Monday since the party is Wednesday.  She did not like this option and was worried she would be in trouble, so we stopped by Target at 8 p.m. on our way home from soccer to see what we could come up with.  I was hoping they would have an already made one, or a kit that is easy to do.  Nope, nothing like that to be found.  So, Emma picked out a few random Valentines decorations and we headed home with no idea what we were going to do.  I had been up since 4:30 a.m. and was ready for dinner and bed when we got home, so Chris offered to help Emma make her box.  I went to bed and woke up to find the coolest Valentines Box EVER!  Chris and Emma did awesome! She woke up so excited about her box and couldn't wait to take it to school. She came home from school talking about how her box was everyone's favorite. Thank goodness for crafty Chris!

PC18

We took a family vacation to Parks City, Utah for skiing!  We had an uneventful flight there without any motion sickness or bodily fluids. We had fun skiing, walking around the town, eating out, riding the Alpine Coaster and zip line, hot tubbin' and relaxing together. Emma's favorite part of the trip was skiing and the "build your own" donuts, Ryan's favorite part was the Alpine Coaster and visiting the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City.  Polly's favorite part was the hot tub and the "alligator" (also known as the elevator!) Chris and I enjoyed skiing, the Pig Pen Saloon, and sneaking out with Polly to a bar to watch the first half of the Super Bowl and pick up dinner for the big girls. I also loved getting to ski with Emma, who is amazing on the slopes!  Ryan is still timid and needing one on one help, but she is making progress.  Next year it will be Polly's turn for ski school!
Waiting for our plane at DFW.

Vomit free Polly on a plane!

Big girls sat together across the aisle.

Lots of beers and hot chocolate were had at the Pig Pen Saloon!

About to head out on the Alpine Coaster.
It was so fast and so long- we loved it!

Ryan loved the roller coaster!

Zip line!
Polly wasn't quite tall enough for the roller coaster so
she settled for a donut.
Poor Emma.
My one kid who I thought was not affected by motion sickness.
Flight home was rough for her, but at least she could tell me
when she felt bad.
