Swim Team Try-Outs
Emma really excelled at swimming this year so Chris brought up the idea of swim team. We talked about it and decided we would try to get her in it next summer. After doing a little investigating we found out it is year round and she could try out any Monday evening. We asked her if she wanted to and she did. So, the whole family loaded up one Monday evening and we took her to try out. The age is supposed to be 5 years to start but the lady gave Emma a chance. I really think she thought Emma was not going to be able to do it. Boy, was she surprised. when Emma hopped right in and swam 25 meters freestyle, then 25 meters breaststroke, then 25 meters back stroke and then another 25 meters freestyle. She did amazing! The lady would call the stroke out and Emma would take off! Although she could have grabbed the edge in between to rest and push off of, Emma just tread water instead and waited for her next stroke to be called. It was pretty impressive! We were so proud and the lady was very surprised and impressed. She offered Emma a spot on the pre-competitive team (where everyone starts at age 5) and she gave us the paperwork to take home and sign her up with. We headed headed home and I was ready to go on-line and drop the big bucks to sign her up. I asked her if she had fun and she said "yes, but it was kind of long", and then I asked her if she wanted to do it and she said "no, I think I just want to swim at Grandpa's pool". So, Emma made the swim team but is not quite ready to join. Maybe next summer! In the meantime Chris plans to work on her strokes with her at Grandpa's. :-)
